November 12-18: National Kindness Week

(11/13/2009) Lauren Tancredi

November to most people means Thanksgiving.  A time for gathering with families, expressing gratitude and of course stuffing ourselves with Turkey.  Amongst all the celebrations of this month is National Kindness Week, although it should be an everyday practice, it is a small reminder that being kind can take many shapes and forms. Most importantly, it's not difficult to do and can create a lasting impression on the lives you touch.

Here are some simple ways that you can celebrate and participate in this week of Kindness, in your community and with the people in your life.

  • Donate to a cause
  • Give unwanted clothes to a shelter
  • Contribute canned food to a shelter or food bank
  • Provide your local library with your unwanted books
  • Volunteer your time to your community- take pride in the place you live
  • You can pick weeds, clean up graffiti, or pick-up litter- Every little bit counts!
  • Help at a local shelter or school or convalescent home
  • Make Someone's day
  • Say hello to a stranger you don't know- smiling is contagious
  • Meet your neighbors that you may have never talked to
  • Give hugs and Pays on the back
  • Share laughter with cartoons or funny stories
  • Send a thank you note
  • Give a compliment

Remember, what goes around comes around.  You can start a ripple around with the small gift of kindness.
