THE DOCTOR IS IN

  • A recent Swedish study of 363,992 men reported a strong link between obesity and kidney cancer.
  • Nearly one third of all cancer deaths in the United States are attributable to diet and physical activity habits according to the American Cancer Society. Check out www.cancer.org for more information.
  • Frequent and prolonged periods of stress-induced high blood pressure have been demonstrated to promote injury to blood vessel walls causing the buildup of atherosclerotic plaque.
  • Exercise and weight loss programs have been shown to lower blood pressure at rest and in situations that typically elevate pressures during daily life experiences (emotional distress). This is the first study that has looked at the effect of exercise and weight loss on blood pressure outside of a clinical setting—i.e. in real life situations.
