Benefits Series: Coconut Oil

Have you started using coconut oil?  There is so much research available on the benefits and healthy reasons to use coconut oil!  Today we wanted to bring you the top 4 benefits that we liken to using coconut oil, as well as some easy ways to use it in your everyday life.

1. Promotes healthy body function

Coconut oil has so many amazing nutrients and healthy components!  Just listing a few here will convince you that this incredible oil needs to be in your cupboard.  Our favorite benefits include anti-oxidant properties, lauric acid for heart health, short and medium-chain fatty acids to assist the pancreas and thereby increase metabolic rates.  Want a great head massage?  Use some coconut oil and erase any dandruff while you’re at it!

2. History speaks for itself

As we look around the world, coconuts are considered “exotic” in many regions, yet for those that can walk outdoors and pick up coconuts from outside their front yard, most of these cultures have little to no heart disease!  Those cultures which regularly consume coconut products are also rarely overweight.

3. Curbs your appetite

Yes, you read that right!  Using coconut oil can help to curb your appetite, likely because of the abundance of fatty acids which can have an appetite reducing effect.  Combine coconut oil use with other coconut products (coconut water?) and you can just imagine what the effect could be on your waistline.

4. Boost brain function

In 2006, coconut oil was used in a study with Alzheimer’s patients.  Incredibly, there was an improvement in the brain function of patients with milder forms of the disease!  As studies continue, coconut oil is being considered as a key component in Alzheimer’s therapeutic treatments.

1. Put it in your coffee (or tea)

Yes!  Have you ever heard of “bullet proof coffee“?  It’s essentially coffee blended with coconut oil.  Yum!

2. Cut down on the chemicals…

You can replace nearly all of your body lotions and facial creams with… you guessed it… coconut oil!

3. Use it as a natural remedy

Coconut oil has anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial properties.  Use it topically to treat everything from hemorrhoids to bug bites.
